MIDWIFE is the musical moniker of Denver, Colorado-based artist Madeline Johnston, who describes her sublime music as ‘heaven metal’. In recent years, MIDWIFE has toured the US alongside acts like Deafheaven, Ethel Cain, Blood Incantation, Baroness, and Lingua Ignota. She has released two new critically acclaimed albums: No Depression in Heaven (2024) and Never Die (Relapse), a 2025 collaborative LP with Matt Jencik (known from Kranky's Implodes as well as the Slint, Papa M, and Circuit des Yeux live bands)

Madeline Johnston is a self taught multi-instrumentalist and recording engineer, currently based in Southern Colorado by way of Denver, where she spent the last decade+ developing her sound and focusing on her artistic community. On stage, Johnston is known for her sparse, emotionally charged experimental pop music that can silence a room. On record, she produces intricate and lush sonic environments in her own little corner of the heavy music scene. She describes her sound as “Heaven Metal,” AKA emotional music about devastation: catharsis. Johnston writes primarily about grief, and the many faces it can inhabit.

Devin Shaffer is a musician and artist based in New York. Interlacing hushed psychedelic folk with ambient drone, field recording, and archival audio, her music guides listeners on a winding traversal through different sonic realms. Following her 2021 debut, In My Dreams I’m There, she released her sophomore LP, Patience, via American Dreams Records in 2025.
