Plattenbau (commie block in German) is an international Berlin-based foursome that fuses elements of post-punk, noise rock and wave into a dark and intense potion. Their sound blends robotic drums, gothy basslines, mystical guitars and paranoid synths into a mood akin to a 90s VHS horror soundtrack, tied together with deep, brooding vocals. The result is a sonic experience that feels both chaotic and meticulously crafted, on brand with their slogan “Tight, loose and evil”. The band formed in 2011, inspired by the brutalist architecture of east Berlin’s post-Soviet landscape. A mainstay of the Berlin underground scene, over the years the band evolved in members and instrumentation until solidifying its current lineup: Lewis Lloyd (Vox/Synth), Sally Brown (Bass/Vox), Brandon Walsh (Drums) and Jesper Munk (Guitar/Synth). Following their signing to Oliver Ackermann’s (A Place To Bury Strangers/Death By Audio) label Dedstrange in 2021, Plattenbau released their 2nd and 3rd studio albums “Shape / Shifting” (2022) and “Net Prophet” (2023) which they promoted on extensive tours across Europe and in 2023 at SXSW and NYC’s New Colossus festival, including the closing show at Bowery Ballroom with A Place To Bury Strangers. Starting with “Held In A Curse” in September 2024 Plattenbau have been releasing new singles that dive deeper into their paranoid cyber-verse, such as the banner-waving banger “Revenge Body” and its remix by Lemongrab, and “Progress” featuring Carmen of Berlin’s cult darkwave trio “Die Anstalt” with a limited edition split 7” release and a mini tour with videos featuring both bands. Plattenbau’s 4th album “Cursed” arrived on Halloween 2025 as a co-release between Dedstrange and French label Swish Swash.
Known for their raw and authentic live shows, LEMONGRAB originally formed in Montréal, have been Berlin-based since 2020 and have made a quick yet lasting impression on the wider European underground scene. Cathartic, Stooges-inspired art punk. Pylon's weirdo-pop hooks resurface on a familiar Bikini Kill-esque territory.
Lemongrab's new release, Small, is a patchwork of four songs, each pulling its own corner of the blanket while sharing the same direction of punk sensibilities and politics. Constantly questioning systems of beliefs, which often lead to existential angst.
Small all can be hard to pin down since all its songs vary in style, but the same lo-fi garage/punk sound pushes through. Small shall be released in the fall via Mothland (CAN) and Chrüsimüsi Records (CH) on the 11.09.2026
