Touch Me, If You Can A Lecture-Performance by Rebel-IST-hah!
Concept and Idea: Foad Esfahani and Azadeh Ganjeh

Touch is central to understanding the relation between the self and the world. It is not only a matter of intimacy; it also shapes how bodies appear, relate, and leave traces on and with one another. Touch can define and build communities, while also (re)presenting politics. It produces memory, proximity, and offers one possibility for encounter—yet its practice is not promised. Touch Me, If You Can approaches touch as both a shared sense and an uneven condition. What seems immediate and accessible for some becomes distant, regulated, or withheld for others—especially in public space and on the stage. Taking a historical shift after 1989 as a point of departure, the work traces how restrictions around bodily contact in an illiberal Regime-Iran reorganize gesture, relation, and form. What cannot be enacted—does it disappear, or does it return as displacement, hesitation, or substitution? Moving between research and performance, the piece lingers on what appears—between touch, intimacy, and the knowledge that emerges through contact—and on the distances we learn, negotiate, or are made to inhabit.
